Booker T. Washington (1856-1915) was born a slave. He graduated from what is today Hampton University in 1875, and subsequently taught there. In 1881 he founded the forerunner of Tuskegee University. He made himself and his school two of the most well-known institutions in twentieth-century black America. He earned world-renowned recognition as an educator, social theorist, and spokesperson for African Americans.

In order for them to survive it is imperative for mothers to work from home. First of all I should note that this book was published in 1994. After reading about 8 consecutive ridiculous statements, I wanted the throw the book across the room. I want to compare this book to "Half the Sky" and in that case, it has some of the same themes, but nowhere near the amount of personal narrative and sheer information that comes from "Half the Sky.". Stunning pictures and great overall design!!. Lots of great pictures. Sharma's narrative includes a powerful collection of stories about the women from these four countries who have been learning how to overcome the forces of poverty. This is a good book and I had to read it for a class and am debating whether or not to assign it for my own high school students.
