This book analyzes 116 films distributed throughout the United States over nearly 75 years, to construct a theory, grounded in cultural studies and critical pedagogy, of curriculum in the movies. The portrayal of teachers in popular motion pictures is based on individual, rather than collective, action and relies on codes established by stock characters and predictable plots, precluding meaningful struggle. These conventions ensure the ultimate outcome of the screen narratives and almost always leave the educational institutions – which represent the larger status quo – intact and powerful. In addition to an expanded list of films informing the analysis, this revised edition features two new chapters: one on gay teachers in recent films and another on principals in the movies. The Author: Mary M. Dalton is Assistant Professor of Communication at Wake Forest University. She earned a Ph.D. in Cultural Studies and an M.A. in Broadcasting and Cinema from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In addition to various publications in the area of critical media studies, she is also a documentary filmmaker.

I'm eagerly looking for these authors to write more such books.. Do we really need an expert to tell us these things?) What little practical advice there is on subjects like having slides made of your work or sending out press releases is so general that it is of little use. I now have a system in place that I can use that sets me up for success when I start my work day. I don't, therefore, think that rebellious, misbehaving students are right (another point by the author); as an educator, I believe there are complex reasons for rebellion and there are other ways to get such students' attention, even in a rule-by-the-rich, consumer society.. What!? That makes the title sort of deceiving, right?
I do like his book title, though"Million Dollar Sales Letters You Can Legally Steal to Suck In Cash Like a Vacuum on Steriods."
That would make an excellen
